Our mission is to advance a racial equity agenda in Grand Rapids by Expanding Affordable Housing and Increasing Community Power. Ultimately our work is to change policies that limit advancement opportunities in under-resourced communities and neighborhoods.

History of LINC UP

LINC UP was incorporated on June 13, 2000 after a community-based planning process took place to create new community development goals for local neighborhoods. The planning process included local community development corporations, neighborhood associations, builders, foundations, representatives from the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and, most importantly, residents of core city neighborhoods. Over time, LINC UP grew into a thriving community development organization driven by grassroots relationships, resident engagement, and diverse leadership.

LINC UP investments have grown significantly over the last 20 years.  As of 2024, LINC UP has invested over $100 million in housing and commercial development. In 20 years, LINC UP has expanded affordable housing in Grand Rapids by developing more than 900 single-family homes, townhomes, and multi-family apartments. Our work continues today with new developments, advocacy for policy changes, and a deeper commitment to racial equity.
